Typical appearance of a jaw Xray from an ameloblastoma. Note the resorption of the tooth root and the destruction of the bone in that area
Marsupilisation technique using decompression stent after tooth extraction. This is washed out by the patient using a syringe and causes the tumour to regress after a period of a 3-6 months.
Note regression of lesion with bone formation at the lower border of jaw. The next step is to safely remove the rest of the tumour with a reduced chance of fracture of the lower jaw. Traditional treatment would be to do a segmental resection ( removal of segment of jaw ) and reconstruction which is still an option if conservative measures fail.
